According to a recent LA Times article, Sarah Palin believes that people and dinosaurs coexisted and that the planet is only 6000 years old. WTF?! From the article: “Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago — about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct…”
Sorry, hate to post political stuff, but really…
Harvard Business School published a very thoughtful analysis of the current Wall Street crisis in their most recent Working Knowledge newsletter. I highly recommend reading it to understand the background and the events leading up to the current situation.
A friend from grad school is launching a cool new Vegas travel site. Check it out: http://www.vegaschill.com
I’m helping a friend launch a new financial planning website. You can register for the beta test at http://pennypuddle.com/signup.php and the first ~25 users will get a free financial plan prepared. If you’d like to test out the site without sharing your real financial information just register and make up some reasonable numbers. If you decide to fudge the numbers you won’t get much help with your actual retirement planning, but you will get to play with the site and see what it’s all about.
The every-other-year giant photography convention Photokina is almost here. For all the gear-head photographers out there this is a great time to watch for new product announcements and start drooling over new stuff. I’m particularly interested to see what Nikon and Canon are releasing in the prosumer DSLR space, plus mid-range HD camcorder technology. Just a couple more weeks.

A good friend sent me a link to this New York Times article on social networking. While the focus is on Facebook and Twitter it’s broadly applicable across the myriad of similar sites and services. The piece refers to a social science concept called “ambient awareness”; it’s an interesting idea but I’m still going to un-follow people on Twitter if they continually tweet crap like “just made cheese sandwich” followed by “eating cheese sandwich”, etc.
We haven’t officially re-launched yet, but the web site for our Exposure photography podcast has a new URL and a new look. It has been upgraded to Wordpress 2.6.1 and is sporting a theme that I did some basic customizations to. John (my co-host) and I have started recording episodes again and will be re-launching the show next Friday, September 12th. Stay tuned!
