CNN is re-posting details from an Apple Insider post about the upcoming changes to the MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and various other members of the Apple family. If the rumors are correct, one of my biggest compaints about the MacBook Pro has been addressed, i.e. the lack of a user-upgradable hard disk (I ran out of space on my 120GB drive almost immediately – damn media files!). It also sounds like the MacBooks may get upgraded from a plastic case to an aluminum one, which would be a big improvement in my book. If their projections are right we should know in the next 2-3 weeks. The only thing that’s a bit strange about all this is the fact that they’ve missed the back-to-school season, but they will be well positioned for holiday shopping.
In case you haven’t heard the buzz about Ubiquity yet, you might check it out and see what you think. It’s a new project from the Mozilla labs, and while it’s still in a prototype state it looks really intriguing. The project’s goal is to allow you to interact with the browser (and by extension the web) in a much more language-driven, connected fashion. There’s a short video on the site showing how you can create “user generated mashups”. While it’s still very early stage it looks really promising. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
I just signed up for Leo Laporte’s TWiT Army Page. It’s an interesting use of microblogging (e.g. Twitter, for the uninitiated) for a community rather than the public at large. Only problem: I’m now signed up for way too many of these things to keep up with. I’d love to hear what John Dvorak has to say about this one…
I’ve been playing with Viddler for the past couple of days and really like it so far. They’ve done a great job of letting users customize the interface and are incredibly interactive with their user community. Check it out and see what you think.
Just ran across this great post by Gary Vaynerchuk (of Wine Library TV) talking about how you can build your new media show / business / podcast etc. without quitting your day job. As he calls it, “hustle 2.0″. Very good message to people who think their day jobs are crowding out their passions.
Here’s a video of the good people from Blendtec (i.e. “Will it Blend”) doing a live demo of their blender at this morning’s New Media Expo keynote UPDATE: the video is now available on Viddler for streaming instead of downloading.
The good folks from Will it Blend did the keynote presentation this morning, including a live demo of the blender destroying a rake handle in seconds. One of the attendees volunteered his cell phone, which the blender also made short work of. What a great way to star the day!!
